The Prickly Pear Cactus grows in the desert. It has been a food staple in the Mexican diet for centuries. The pads and the fruit are used in cooking, in cosmetics and for medicinal purposes. Currently there are many areas opf research regarding the plant and fruit. The pads are used as vegetables. They are often used to lower blood sugar and cholestral. They are found in many supermarkets and easy to prepare.
